Northwest Cup Series (1)
Tonight we kick off our 2020 racing season with season 1 of the Northwest Cup Series with our first of 35 cup races scheduled for this season; a 200-mile superspeedway shootout at Daytona International Speedway.
With several new drivers in the fold this season and a new car in play, we are not quite sure what to expect to tonight but we have a sneaking suspicion that whatever happens, it won't be boring.
We added 40 Northwest drivers to the league since this time last year. So what does that all mean for tonight? I have no clue, your guess is as good as mine but in previous years we have seen anywhere from 28 to 36 cars show for the season opener.
We don't anticipate a full field tonight but in the unlikely event we think we might exceed the number of pit stalls for the race tonight it will be handled as follows:
1. Top 20 drivers in points from last year's fixed series are guaranteed a grid spot.
2. We will hold a separate standalone qualifying session and the remaining pit stalls will be filled based on the results of that session.
3. There will be a qualifying session in the attached race session to determine grid positioning
4. If there are enough interested drivers who did not make the cut, we will throw up another race session for that split and let iRacing officiate it.
The practice server opens up at 6:00 pm Pacific tonight and the green flag drops at 8:30 tonight.
The race will be broadcast on LSRTV tonight with pre, post and in-race interviews. Cody Wooten and Justin Prince of LSRTV will call the race tonight. The broadcast will be run off our TeamSpeak server so if you wish to make yourself available for an interview you will need to be in the TeamSpeak server.
If you need any assistance or have any questions please reach out to the driver's committee or admins for assistance. We'd like to thank this year's drivers committee volunteers Chris White, Ray Fournier, Corey Walters, Jon Ottenbacher, Tom Green, and Dan West Jr. for all their hard work in helping us plan and launch our 2020 race season.
